Cape Fear Modern Guild meeting notes for Nov. 16, 2015

Our November 16th meeting was our Quilts of Valor charity quilt sew-in.  We worked on a modern twist for this Quilts of Valor.      You are all so generous with your time.  Thank you.

If you are falling behind.... here is a refresh on our Round-Robin Challenge.
July - focus square for piece
August - border with squares
Sept. - border with triangles
Oct. - border with rectangles
Nov. - border with circles, ovals or curves
Jan. - border with letter, letters, words, number or numbers
Feb. - wild card (add or substitute one of the rows)
March - add embellishments to your piece

Here is our upcoming schedule:
  • December 14 (Monday):  Holiday Brunch at Sweet and Savory restaurant at 10 a.m.   We will have a swap of some sort of handmade notion having to do with sewing or quilting: for example: scissor keeper, needle keeper, rotary cutter bag, scrap collector, etc.   Please wrap your swap item.
  • January 19th (Tuesday):  The program will be "The colors and crafts of Nepal", by Donna and Mary (and a little help from Dianne).    As always, bring your Show and Tells as well as progress on your Round-Robin Challenge.
Please note:  we have a new meeting day for 2016.   We will be meeting on the 3rd Tuesday of the month starting in January 2016.

Upcoming Meetings

Please note:  we have a new meeting date for 2016.   We will be meeting on the 3rd Tuesday on the month starting in January 2016.

Here is our upcoming schedule:

  • November 16th (Monday):   Charity quilt sew-in.  We will do a modern twist on it for Quilts of Valor.    Bring any red, white, blue scraps at least 5" long to next meeting as well as machines, sewing supplies, etc.   Karen has agreed to long arm the quilt for us.   Thank you Karen.
  • December 14 (Monday):  Holiday Brunch at Sweet and Savory restaurant at 10 a.m.   Will have a swap of some sort of handmade notion having to do with sewing or quilting: for example: scissor keeper, needle keeper, rotary cutter bag, scrap collector, etc.
  • January 19th (Tuesday):  The program will be "The colors and crafts of Nepal", by Donna and Mary.

As always, bring your Show and Tells as well as progress on your Round Robin Challenge.

Meetings are held at Sew Happins Quilt shop and start at 10am (except for our Dec meeting).

Cape Fear Modern Guild meeting notes for October 19, 2015

Small group: Molly, Lorelei, Lois, Laura, Marion, Karen and Dianne.  A new member joined us today: Ann Boggs.

Self round robin:  Lorelei, Laura, Karen showed their progress.  Molly had new fabric to give out for this month. Lorelei will bring one in November.

November is our Charity quilt sew-in.
Discussion of ideas; settled on a Chinese Coin Quilt....will do for a modern twist on it for Quilts of Valor.  Bring any red, white, blue scraps at least 5" long to next meeting as well as machines, sewing supplies, etc.  We will need a person or two to cut the strips- it will help to bring rotary cutters, rulers also.   Karen will long arm it for us.
Only show and tell for November will be self round robin.


December- brunch again at Sweet and Savory at 10 a.m. on Dec 14th (we moved it up a week).  Will have a swap of some sort of handmade notion having to do with sewing or quilting: for example: scissor keeper, needle keeper, rotary cutter bag, scrap collector, etc....
