We also grew by SIX new members ! WELCOME to Marybeth Mazur, Sharon Quinlin, Carol Bennett, Lorelei Hauptman, Margie Grant and Pamela Broe.
As a followup to the meeting:
- The Fat Quarter Swap for February will focus on BATIKS. Remember .... a fat quarter is 18 x 22 inches. It will be soooo difficult for me to part with any of my batiks ..... BUT I will get some in return - so all will be right with the world.
- The SELF Row Robin begins. It is called SELF because there is no exchange. The first row - due for the February meeting - is called Outside the Box from Modern Quilt Workshop by Weeks Ringle and Bill Kerr. We will be working through the book month by month. I encourage everyone to purchase the book - Sara can order it for you - as it is a wonderful reference for the modern quilt blocks. The directions are available on the web at http://books.google.com/books?id=xTLKr6nMTfMC&pg=PA18&lpg=PA18&dq=outside+the+box+quilt+pattern&source=bl&ots=qM7HkxgxCq&sig=Hnc2_6d5SLBSoHhrFzZrx2TRBMI&hl=en&sa=X&ei=Hsb-UIL9Lo6W8gTnRg&ved=0CEIQ6AEwBQ#v=onepage&q=outside%20the%20box%20quilt%20pattern&f=false. PLEASE NOTE: No further directions will be posted on the blog nor will you receive paper directions at a meeting - this is copyrighted material - the authors work hard to make a living publishing their material. Bill Kerr - whom I had the opportunity to meet this summer at the Minnesota Quilt Show - was very personable and helpful in answering my questions regarding modern quilting.
- What's Old is New Again Monthly Block Challenge. We all know that February is heart month. Your job - "should you decide to accept" (I just finished watching Mission Impossible III) is to create a modernized heart block. Any color. Any size. Any design. Do not "self-destruct." Remember your curve techniques from this month. There will be a viewers choice award for the best rendition - the winner gets a fat quarter. Be thinking about what pattern to modernize for the month of march - HINT: St Patrick's Day is in March .....
- For the more experienced quilters in our midst, teams will be forming for a Bull's Eye Creation and Swap based upon Dianna Swim Wessel's Inspiration Odyssey. Please contact me for directions as it is quite extensive.
- Check out Upcoming Quilt Shows. Several of our members are also members from other guilds. The Brunswick Quilters Guild has a nice web page dedicated to upcoming quilt shows. Check it out: http://brunswickquilters.com/upcoming_quilt_shows.html. South Carolina also has a nice web page dedicated to SC quilt shows: http://quilterstravelcompanion.com/quilt-shows/south-carolina-quilt-shows.php#February. And Remember your local Guild - Quilters by the Sea: http://quiltersbytheseaguild.org/home
- After the meeting in February anyone who wants to get to know one another a little better is welcome to go out for lunch. Dutch treat. Everyone drives themselves. Be thinking about where we can gather to sit and talk.
Happy Quilting Everyone. See you in February ..........
