Confetti Pattern from Modern Quilt Workshop Book

Several people have indicated that there is template pattern inaccuracy in the block chosen by the members for this month row-by-row.  As a followup to these conversations - has anyone written to the authors to point out the mistake?

If you follow the directions in the book, using the templates on page 118-123 are inaccurate.  And using templates is a very old technique.  And  if one thinks about it you don't even need templates.  Sooo what does one do now ????

From a piece of paper - cut a triangle that you like - big, little, small, wonky whatever works for you.  Using that piece of paper for a pattern (as they did in the Modern Quilt Workshop book) you can then cut that out of your chosen material.  Better yet - get rid of the paper pattern and simply use your rotary cutter to make a triangle (the real modern way).  Then begin to "paper-piece around each side of the triangle with your chosen background fabric.  Use a quarter inch seam on each side.  Trim correctly as you go.  When you finish each side with the fabric of your choice simply cut the square to the correct size (whatever size the first block was in the first row of the self row-by-row).

There are many rreferences for you for paper piecing:

You can even use different fabric for each side of the triangle - it would look really cool.

Happy modern quilting ......

Be thinking about what block you'd like to make for the next row-by-row for the month of April ......
