You have been given a bag of material "supplies" to begin the education in modern quilting techniques.
Your first task is to create an improvisational piece.
The ONLY directions you have are as follows:
- Using the two long strips of fabric lay them RSU (right sides UP - like stack and whack).
- Then slice and dice, using your rotary cutter. Use different widths. Make the widths wide enough to sew back together ( At least 1 inch wide). No curves at this point in time please - only straight cuts.
- Lay the pieces out on your cutting table. Alternate the cut strips any way you'd like to "create" TWO new pieced strips - approximate length to be equal.
- Using the small additional square of fabric as well as your two new pieced strips, add a solid or a color that reads like a solid from your stash, to create a block which is approximately 12 inches square.
Be creative in your cutting and piecing. Remember: no curves.
All joining of fabric pieces MUST BE completed with your sewing machine - not hand pieced. There should be no appliqué on your project (at this point).
It is OK to do something different - out of your comfort zone.
