Show and Tell

Lynn brought in the completed modern charity quilt (9 patch) from our November meeting.

The quilt and quilting looked great.
Thanks to everyone who helped make the quilt.

The quilt was donated to Sister Issac at Tileston Outreach.

Lorelei demonstrated the making of a project roll.  It was a great project and was easy to make.  Thanks Lorelei.

I forgot to take pictures of the completed project rolls.  If you could bring your roll to the July meeting, we can take pictures for our facebook page. Thanks

Reminder: Our next meeting is Monday June 15th

We'll be meeting at 10am @ Sew Happins quilt shop.

What's up at this meeting?

  • General Business
  • Discussion on our Next Challenge (in case you were not at our last meeting)
  • Show & Tell
  • Program:  Lorelei will show us how to make a Project Roll.

Project Roll
Here is the supply list for the project roll:

  • 1 Tube ( Cardboard or PVC ) your Choice of length- mailing tubes are good choices…cut to the width you want….(16”to20”)
  • 2 Fabrics ( 26” X Length of tube) they can be matching, contrasting, etc…
  • 1 1/2 -2 Yards of Ribbon
  •  2 Fabric Circles 2 times the Diameter of the tube – same or coordinating with your larger pieces.

We’ll  need several glue guns.  Lorelei will bring 1.

Prep work before our June meeting:  There is little sewing to this so rather than lug machines…maybe people can do the biggest sewing part at home…that is:

  • Put the two 26” pieces right sides together and sew around 3 sides, leaving one short side open….turn inside out and press.    Some people prefer ‘rounded’ corners….you can do that too…I think it looks nicer.

CF Modern Quilting Guild - Round Robin

Our next challenge project is a "Self" Round-Robin

We will not be passing your piece around.   You will do all the rounds on your own piece.   Pick the colors and fabrics you want for each row.

The focus for each round will be shapes.
Here are the round guidelines:

  1. July: Center/off-center Block.   It can be any size and shape using any technique you like.
  2. August:  Square - add a row/round that includes square shapes.   (e.g. could be a single square, twosie, 4 patch, 9 patch, checkerboard, square in a square, etc).
  3. Sept:  Triangle - add a row/round that includes at least one triangle.   Any size.  (e.g. 1/2 sq triangles, 1/4 square triangles, flying geese, pinwheel, etc.
  4. Oct:  Rectangle - add a row/round that includes a rectangle shape.   Any size.  (e.g. single, rail-fence, log cabin, weave, chevron, etc.)
  5. Nov:  Circle/Oval/Curve - add a row/round with a curve shape.
  6. Jan:  Letters/Numbers - add some lettering or numbers to this row/round.
  7. Feb:  Wild Card - your choice (e.g. appliqué, etc.)  You can substitute this row/round for any of the above rounds if you like.
  8. Mar:  Embellishment - add embellishments to any or all of the above rows/rounds.

Notes:

  • Each month, one member will bring a yard of fabric which can be shared with participants and to be used in the next row.   (Dianne volunteered to bring the inclusion fabric to our July meeting).
  • You may use any technique to transition between rows/rounds.  (e.g. solid border, sashing, flange, piping)

Thank you Laura, for defining our Round-Robin.
